Pawel Pawlikowski Film Season
& LFA Masterclass on Directing
The retrospective at Riverside Studios included films across Pawilkowski’s entire career, his outstanding documentary films, which investigate burning social and cultural issues in Eastern Europe. Films screened included 'Twockers', a para-documentary TV drama, and his latest fiction 'My Summer of Love'.
Pawlikowski, born in Poland, moved to the UK when he was 15, and has gradually become one the most influential and important British film directors. In the mid-80s Pawilkowski was commissioned by the BBC Community Programme Unit to make documentaries for them. Then he moved on to direct numerous award-winning documentaries including From Moscow to Pietushki (Emmy International, Prix Italia, Royal Television Society Award), Dostoevski’s Travels (special mention at Felix European Film Academy Awards), and Tripping with Zhirinovski which received the Grierson Award in 1995.
He came to immediate focus with his feature debut, Last Resort, an extraordinary success, which stormed festivals and won Best Film awards in Edinburgh, Thessaloniki, Gijon and Motovun. The film gained him BAFTA: Best Newcomer in 2000. His latest feature, My Summer of Love, attracted similar critical acclaim and was awarded the main prize at the 2004 Edinburgh Film Festival. |

Being copied and someone else ripping off your creative work is a major concern once you start to share your filmmaking ideas, try to raise funding, pitch, collaborate, show and market your work. You need to protect the content of your films (your intellectual property) and make sure you know what to do if someone does actually copy what is rightfully yours.
