NEW COURSE: Documentary Certificate
(11/8/2009)

LFA launches a hands-on six-week Documentary Certificate course, offering practical training in the field of documentary filmmaking. The second edition of this course will start on 1 February 2010.

London Film Academy is renowned for its focused, intensive and industry-standard training as well as its in-depth practical approach to filmmaking and continued graduate development in a collaborative and personable way.

This unique and dynamic training course develops an understanding of the practical nature of making documentaries and encourages collaboration through the development, filming and post-production of a range of short documentary projects. More specifically, students acquire and apply key skills in building research footage, pitching, writing treatments and post-production, working on both a paper edit and on Final Cut Pro digital editing equipment.

The LFA Documentary Certificate is designed and run by working industry professionals and offers an inspirational, comprehensive and enjoyable introduction to the world of documentary filmmaking.

Throughout six weeks students will:

  • Receive practical hands-on training by practising film & TV industry professionals
  • Work in small groups with excellent tutor-to-student ratios
  • Attend group feedback sessions and mentoring sessions to enhance learning
  • Have the benefit of studying with a top professional film school to increase knowledge of the filmmaking process
  • Shoot a range of research footage and short documentary films on digital equipment
  • Be guided by an experienced editor to edit your film in small groups
  • Edit documentary film projects on non-linear (Final Cut Pro) equipment
  • Receive intense and comprehensive tuition regarding pitching and writing treatments
  • Pitch final film projects to a panel of documentary industry professionals
  • See all final film projects screened at LFA
  • Leave the course with a DVD showreel of work
  • Receive complimentary membership of Club Panico@LFA, a filmmakers' networking group run by LFA, which also supports the production of outside projects outside
  • Leave equipped with practical and theoretical skills and experience in preparation for further training

This course has been developed with the assistance of Manuela Maiguashca, a British filmmaker, activist and the Executive Director of Paper House Films. In 2006, she initiated the Lifeboat Project: a documentary film project about families affected by HIV/AIDS.

“What we offer is the chance to touch every part of the film food chain and to build a comprehensive understanding of each phase of a film’s creation. This is particularly important for those wishing to work as Directors or Producers.”
Manuela Maiguashca, Lead Tutor

FEES
The course fee is £3,500 per student and there are no hidden costs.
