STUDENT SUCCESS: LFA graduates' film selected for London Short Film Festival 2010 (3/1/2010) Congratulations to LFA Filmmaking Diploma 12 graduates Simon Gill, Gary Clayton and Will Tennant, whose latest collaboration, in association with Club Panico@LFA, 'Bad Dreams', has been selected for the 7th London Short Film Festival.
This year, the London Short Film Festival only accepted UK submissions. It will take place from 8-17 January in various venues across London. Further information can be found at www.shortfilms.org.uk.
'Bad Dreams' will be showing at the ICA on Friday 8 January, 23.00 in the shorts programme, New Shorts 2: Lo-Budget Mayhem, a showcase featuring late-night gems. The Hamburg Short Film Festival will be handing out the Best Lo-Budget Film Award and offering the winners the opportunity to have their short screened at the Hamburg Short Film Festival 2010.
'Bad Dreams' is a slasher horror about a little girl who believes a bogeyman is chasing her, but her mum is convinced it is all in her daughter's head – until the horrible truth is revealed.
Co-directors Simon and Will and Camera Operator Gary were supported by a crew made up of Filmmaking Diploma 9, 10 and 11 students. In charge of the short's visual special effects was Murat Kuscu, who earlier this year joined the trio to form the Fulham Four, winners of the Imagine Cup 2009, the world's premier student technology competition, sponsored by the United Nations.
This is the first public screening of 'Bad Dreams', though the film has been privately screened at lead actor Mia Riley's school, where all the girls screamed their heads off. Online, 'Bad Dreams' won the Entry Level competition on Filmaka.com. It received more votes than any of the 80 films entered.
Co-Director Simon comments: "We're really proud to have our film screened for the first time at the ICA. It was a great collaborative effort and it was a fantastic experience to film with graduates from three Diploma years."
