JOHN WARD entered the Regent Street Polytechnic in 1959 to study photography and film. He worked as a camera assistant and focus puller before moving up to camera operator in 1975. He specialised in Steadicam operating and worked on many films often doubling as camera operator and “B” camera operator. John's feature film credits include 'The Bounty', 'Full Metal Jacket', 'Rita Sue & Bob Too', 'Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves', 'The Fifth Element', 'The Ninth Gate' and 'From Hell'. During the late 80's he also worked on a number of TV productions as Director of Photography for the director Alan Clarke; these include 'Road', 'Elephant' and 'The Firm'. Recent feature film credits as DOP include 'Love Honour And Obey', 'Final Cut', 'To Die For' and 'Olympus Force'.
PETER THORNTON started his career in this industry immediately after finishing a 3 year film course at Bournemouth College in the 1960's when I was the assistant cameraman for a small independent company that made 16mm industrial documentaries and 35mm cinema and TV commercials. That lasted for about 3 years and then I got a staff job with HTV in Bristol. This was the beginning of a long period of my career spent in television and when Channel 4 started in 1982 I moved over to Cardiff, still with HTV, to work mainly on TV Drama, light entertainment, music videos and documentaries. He became freelance in 1989 and since then have concentrated mainly on Feature Films and TV Drama. I have worked in 6 feature films as main unit DOP and many more as 2nd unit DOP as well as many hours of TV Drama, both main and 2nd unit. This includes a 3 part TV Series called 'Triangle' that I shot in Wales last year and which recently earned me my second Welsh BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography. His feature credits include: 'Winner Takes All', 'Kannibal', 'Cameleon'.
