Our Filmmaking Certificate graduate Alvaro Delgado-Aparicio has had incredible success with his debut film 'Retablo' (2017), which has been nominated for the 'Outstanding Debut by a Writer, Director or Producer' at the 2020 BAFTAs and for 'Best International Film' at the Independent Spirits Awards 2020 alongside the Oscar-winning 'Parasite' (2020) and 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' (2019).

Alvaro began at LFA in 2006, where he completed the Filmmaking Certificate, in order to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking in an intense period of time. Years later, he created his first short film 'The Companion' (2012) where it competed at Sundance Festival for 'Short Film Grand Jury Prize'.

He returned in 2017 to write and direct his first feature film 'Retablo' (2017), a story set in Peru of a 14-year old boy who has aspirations of following his father's footsteps until that is suddenly haltered by a conflict with his father.

'Retablo' world premiered at the 2018 Berlinale and since then, Retablo has won 42 awards in different international film festivals. 'Retablo' was Peru’s official entry for the Oscars 2020 and the Spanish Academy Goya Awards in the 'Best International Film' category. It has also received a nomination for 'Best International Film' at the Independent Spirits Awards 2020
